On its Inside Search blog, Google announced a new feature that will allow those logged into their Google accounts to access recent searches from their desktop computers on their smartphones. While the feature is not currently rolled out to all users, it will make searches for local businesses especially easy for consumers moving forward.
Junichi Uekawa, a Google software engineer, cites the example of a user searching for a restaurant and forgetting the address. Rather than searching for the location again on their device, they simply open Google.com on their mobile browser and click the "Recent" tab to see their search history.
For marketers, the Recent feature places an especially strong focus on the development of an engaging website. The ease of getting to sites via the Recent tab may guide on-the-go prospects to visit a business, but companies must first have strong content and optimal search engine optimization in place to be discovered on the web.
This is just the latest step toward unification of all platforms for Google. Among the moves the company has announced in recent months is greater integration between search on mobile devices and desktops. Brafton recently reported that Google expects 1 billion people to use the mobile web as their primary web access point in 2012, driving the company's aggressive integration.
