Google drove nearly of all website traffic in February, compared to less than 20 percent for direct URLs.

A report from Shareaholic found that Google generated more than 48.8 percent of all website traffic in February. While it actually drove less site traffic than in January, the company still generated substantial page views for businesses of all kinds.

In general, Google's success demonstrates the ultimate value of strong search engine optimization campaigns for businesses looking to increase visibility for the websites.

For businesses launching these campaigns, focusing on Google SEO will likely yield greater benefits than with other search engines. Shareaholic's study found that Bing yielded just 1.21 percent of all website referrals in February. Bing traffic was lower than traffic volumes generated by Facebook, Yahoo and Pinterest, among other platform.

Other interesting points from the report include Facebook's dominance in terms of social referral traffic. Facebook generated 6.38 percent of all traffic in February. While this was les than the 6.92 percent it yielded in January, it was more thantrip the traffic of any other social media marketing platform on Shareaholic's list.

Brafton recently reported that Facebook has rolled out Timeline to businesses to help them leverateh the layout's highly interactive nature.
