Yahoo adds new image search function to enhance results

Yahoo's new image search feature brings high-quality images into search results.

Yahoo is hoping to step out of Google's shadow by rolling out a series of updates to improve user experience and attract more web traffic. The latest change brings high-quality images to SERPs when users conduct queries about countries or places, Yahoo Search Product Director Girish Krishnan announced in the company's latest Tumblr post. If the release does what it's intended to - make users wish they were in these locations - the search site might become a hub for travel brands' website content as a way to drive traffic to their marketing collateral and generate new leads.

"You'll see a collection of gorgeous Getty Images from that location. This partnership allows us to display high-quality photos from award-winning photographers," Krishnan states in the post.

This announcement comes on the heels of Yahoo's revamped search user interface and News page, Brafton previously reported. The site aims to give its users search experiences catered to their unique preferences and interest. If a person logs into Yahoo with his or her ID, the search engine will store information about the stories he or she clicks on and deliver more of the same.

Marketers who invest in SEO content strategies might find Yahoo does the heavy lifting to get prospects through the sales funnel by delivering a stream of relevant content to their news feeds every time they log on.
