Google confirms softened Panda algo released
Jul 18th 2013, 19:07, by Lauren Kaye

Google confirmed recent SERP shakeups are due to a Panda update.

Google recently confirmed that it's in the process of rolling out a Panda algorithm refresh, which might explain SEOs' reports of search ranking shifts. In a post for Search Engine Land, Barry Schwartz states that the search engine substantiated the internet marketing industry's suspicions, despite earlier warnings that it would no longer corroborate future refreshes.

"In the last few days, we've been pushing out a new Panda update that incorporates new signals so it can be more finely targeted," Google told Schwartz.

This is part of a push to reduce Panda's impact on brands' search engine rankings that were targeted for publishing low-quality web content, Brafton reported earlier this year. The updates are being rolled out throughout the summer over 10-day spans to assimilate the changes into SERPs.

SEOs who first caught on to the update noticed their domains were positioned higher on results pages, experienced upticks in website traffic and saw more unique terms were directing internet users to their pages. This is good news for brands that had previously been hurt by the algorithm's impact. However, the underlying message remains - domains that feature high-quality digital content will be rewarded and sites producing poor marketing materials will be punished.
